So where do we begin? First, let’s look at what the Cut-E test is and what purpose it serves.

What is the AON Cut-e Assessment Test?

The AON Cut-e assessment test is a multi-tiered exam designed to allow companies to assess potential employees’ aptitude levels. The assessment takes place online and covers a range of topics in various categories. These categories can be broken down into five main components:

  • Numerical Ability
  • Verbal Ability
  • Mechanical Judgment
  • Abstract Judgment
  • Behavioral Judgment

The 5 AON Cut-e Assessment Test Sections

1. Numerical Ability

The three sections, verbal, numerical, and abstract reasoning, will determine how well you will deal with different problems one can encounter in the workplace. Each section targets a different number of skill sets and will test your ability to communicate, deal with numbers, and apply logic.

2. Verbal Ability

The verbal ability section presents the candidate with data samples that contain verbal information. You must analyze the data and determine the accuracy of the statements provided along with it. This section has 12 more tasks than the last, for a total of 49. With only 12 minutes to complete, the verbal ability section is challenging without prior knowledge.

3. Mechanical Judgment

The mechanical Judgment section of the Cut-E test looks at how much a candidate knows about fundamental physics principles. Questions will look at concepts like force and magnetism and mechanical devices like levers, pulleys, and gears. This section has fewer questions than the previous and more allotted time (24 questions in 15 minutes), but the subject matter is relatively tricky.

4. Abstract Judgment

5. Behavioral Judgment

For the final part of this AON assessment, you will be given as much time as is needed to complete 100 personality questions (depending on which version you are presented with). These questions come in five sets of opposing statements, with a slider moving between the statements. You must select how much you agree with each by moving the slider further towards the statement that aligns most with your personality.

How to Prepare for the AON Cut-E Assessment Test

With a bit less than 15 seconds per question in some sections, the Cut-E assessment can be a high-pressure and stressful examination. With a job on the line, the best thing you can do to prepare for the test is to study each subject rigorously and take practice exams to hone your skills.

Remember, you can’t stop or pause the test once it has started: it must be completed in a single session. That’s why the absolute best way to prepare for this test is through our comprehensive Cut-E test prep course.

What Questions Are on the Cut-E Assessment?

Each module is designed to take a type of question on the cut-e test, explain the core concepts, then show examples of that question you will encounter during your assessment. Let’s take a brief look at each module as a preview for this course.

Verbal Reasoning Test Section: Verbal Reasoning

The first part of the verbal reasoning section will involve a paragraph of information you read and analyze. From there, you will determine whether certain statements are “True,” “False,” or “Cannot Say.”

You will be given a text like this: No two families spend their money in precisely the same way. Yet statistics show that there is predictable regularity in the way people allocate their expenditure on food, clothing, and other significant items.`

Then, you will be given a statement you must assess: The Smith family spends their money precisely the same as the Brown family.

1. True
2. False
3. Cannot Say

The answer is B, which is False. The first sentence states, “No two families spend their money in the precisely same way.”

Analogies Test Section: Verbal Reasoning

The analogies questions will present you with a set of words that relate to each other, then another set where one is missing. You must figure out the relationship between the first set, then apply that relationship to the second set.

Let’s look at an example:

STETHOSCOPE is to DOCTOR as __?__ is to SINGER.

1. Wrench
2. Microphone
3. Hammer
4. Spotlight
5. Chalkboard

First, you identify the pattern. In this case, you determine that the stethoscope is one of a doctor’s primary tools and perhaps the most recognizable. Applying that pattern to a singer, you can see that the best answer would be Microphone.

1/2/3/4 Operations Test Section: Numerical Reasoning

The 1/2/3/4 Operations questions are meant to check your ability to do basic calculations. Examples will vary, as some questions will be presented as simple division or multiplication. Others will require you to know certain mathematical concepts, like the order of operations.

Here is an example of a simple multiplication problem you may encounter on the Cut-e test.

Question: ? × 38 = 760

A) 23
B) 16
C) 17
D) 18
E) 20

In this case, you can take 760 and divide it by 38 to get the answer, which would be E.

Tables Test Section: Numerical Reasoning

The table questions in the AON assessment range over a variety of topics, including ratios, percentages, proportions, and averages. These tables are accompanied by text explaining the data. From there, you must interpret the data to reach a particular conclusion.

Here is an example:

img

The test may present you with a table like this one, which discusses four individual stocks. You may be asked to determine simple things, like which stock has the highest share volume or more complex things that involve using this data to find an answer not present on the table.

Percentages Test Section: Numerical Reasoning

Percentage questions in the Cut-e assessment involve determining how a portion of a value relates to a whole.

So, for example:

img

Question: In this diagram of 5 objects, what percentage has white crosses on black discs?

There are five objects, with 2 having white crosses on black discs; thus, there are two that have white crosses on black discs. You can determine that ⅖ of the objects have white crosses on black discs from your knowledge of fractions. ⅖ = 40/100, so 40% of the objects have white crosses on black discs.

Ratios Test Section: Numerical Reasoning

Ratios are, in the simplest terms, the comparison of two amounts. You will be given several pieces of data and have to determine what the ratio is in relation to that data set.

For example:

Question: Deirdre and Dawn are to share $240 in the ratio of 2:3. How much does each girl get?

The best way to do this is to find a suitable placeholder for the ratio provided. An excellent example of this is: for every $5, Deirdre will get $2, and Dawn will get $3. 2 + 3 = 5 is the most important part of the calculation.

Deirdre will get $240 ÷ 5 × 2 = $96.

Dawn will get $240 ÷ 5 × 3 = $144.

Switch Challenge Test Section: Abstract Judgment

For the switch challenge questions, the Cut-E assessment will present you with graphics depicting different symbols and codes. You must select the codes that change the symbols.

The pictures will look something like this:

img

This module goes in-depth on interpreting these graphics and determining which code changed the symbols. In this case, the answer is the third code, 1432.

Scales CLS Practice Test Test Section: Abstract Judgment

This module will help you understand and practice the Scales CLS questions. These questions involve a series of diagrams, and you must analyze these diagrams to understand what rules govern them and what relationships they have.

For example:

img

The relationship we see here is that the green category diagrams all contain a similar central element: the letter X. So the correct answer would be:

Mechanical Reasoning Test Section: Mechanical Judgment

This module breaks the mechanical reasoning questions into several categories: Magnetism, Wheels and Belts, Gears, and Pressure.

  • Magnetism

These questions will require you to understand how magnetism works, what the critical features of magnetic material are, and how to tell the difference between a material that is magnetic and non-magnetic. You must also understand what a magnetic pole is and why magnets can’t exist with a single pole.

  • Wheels and Belts

These questions will have you identify the dynamics between rotating wheels and connective belts. In addition, some aspects like the speed of rotation, the radii of wheels, and the cross-connective quality of belts will help you pass these questions more easily.

  • Gears

The gear questions will require you to understand how a gear functions. For example, you may need to determine how fast a gear can rotate, how they interact with one another, and what systems are included in gears (like rack and pinion.)

  • Pressure

This section will teach you how to understand the concept of pressure. It will show you a force is applied to exert pressure, how pressure affects fluids, and how the position of an object can change the amount of pressure exerted upon it.

Mechanical Test Test Section: Mechanical Judgment

The mechanical test will help you apply the knowledge you learned in the previous module, and make sure you understand each of the four concepts completely.

Here is an example question:

Question: What does liquid pressure depend on?

1. Depth only
2. Liquid density only
3. Depth and liquid density

Liquid pressure depends on both depth and liquid density, so the answer is 3.

Cut-E Behavioral Assessment Test Section: Behavioral Judgment

This section will teach you how to approach the two possible versions of the cut-e behavioral assessment. Depending on what your employer requires, you may have to take one or both versions of this exam. Those versions are the Cut-E shapes and Snap-it Assessment, and the Squares assessment. This module will show you what your trait results may be, what each trait type means, and how answering specific questions can get certain results.

Questions take the form of statements like: I go to work early.

In this case, you would want to say you strongly agree.
